“The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you
Don't go back to sleep!
You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep!
People are going back and forth
across the doorsill where the two worlds touch,
The door is round and open
Don't go back to sleep!”
“I am awake, I am always awake”
- Kathryn Andren from the poem, BUSTED
Devotional singing inspires and uplifts me. During recent years, living in the jungle on the island of Hawaii, I had been very selective and discerning with my “media diet”. Now that I am back in New York, I am more aware of pop music and culture. Tuning in on the radio for the “best mix of the 80’s and today,” I learn what humanity is paying attention to these days. It satisfies my curiosity to get clues on the collective pulse, and in the meantime, I can really rock out singing in the car!
The planetary Pisces party this week and total solar eclipse March 8 & 9 is a call for music, the muse, and all the ways we connect to the Divine.
As a teenager, one of my first experiences connecting to the Divine was through joyful song. I used to sing my heart out in the children’s choir, then in college at gospel choir. These days during a kirtan, or a bakti yoga session, the joy of singing opens my heart to elevated and ecstatic states.
Last weekend at an event called the Vocal Village in New Paltz NY, one of the presenters mentioned, “The more awake you are, the more responsibly you have to be of service.” This statement basically sums up the theme for the Pisces Total Solar eclipse March 8 & 9th.
The planet party this month is a line up in the zodiac sign of Pisces, opposite expansive Jupiter and squared by sober Saturn. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, so it symbolically signals totality, completion and connection with the Divine. Facing off to expansive Jupiter, this energy is magnified even more. Saturn in Sagittarius adds dynamic tension for a serious reality check, calling for responsible action to integrate comic visions with a practical plan.
Themes for the Pisces Solar Eclipse:
1. Wake Up
It is time to wake up. See through illusions and make your dreams real. If you are still waiting for someone else to change you, then Saturn in Sagittarius fires up the truth to rattle your slumber and make sure you are taking responsibility to do the work.
2. Do the Work
This eclipse activates the integration of holding a big vision while doing the work to take care of life’s little details. Don’t get lost in the land of overwhelm. Enthusiastic Jupiter in Virgo faces off to six planets all in Pisces. Step by step, little by little, take your time to get things done.
3. Loose your mind
With so many planets in Pisces plus the north node, it may be difficult at times to articulate what you are feeling right now. The Sun, Moon, Chrion, Ceres, Neptune and Mercury are all in the mutable sign of the fishes. Which way to turn? Be flexible and adaptable. The best way to pull it all together is actually surrender. Engage in healthy activity to let the mind go. Turn up the music or write your own songs. Dance and pray. Meditate; it’s not what you think.
4. Let the divine plan be revealed
If I truly let go of my will and ego, who or what shows up? This eclipse is an opportunity to engage in the contemplation of what it means to surrender to Divine Will. When I drop my agenda of what I think is supposed to happen, then something new emerges. Listen.
5. Surrender and let go
What does it really mean to let go and “let God”? It’s a good strategy, in theory. Chrion is the bridge from one world to the next. Chrion closely meets the Sun and the Moon this month during this eclipse. It creates a bookend on one end with the Sun and Moon conjunction, then on the other side is nurturing Ceres, Neptune and Mercury the messenger. These planets in the Pisces party create a strong emphasis on the connection to other realms and other worlds. Grace descends. Receive it.
6. Integration required
Let the grace of the Divine permeate your experience. Then, it’s important to DO something. Jupiter in detail oriented Virgo and Saturn in Sagittarius says now the we are inspired, let’s do the work and get things done. Check in rather then check out. Now it’s time to make conscious choices for healthy action.
The nodal axis of the Moon is on the Pisces Virgo axis. Likes kids on a sea-saw in this planetary playground, there are 6 planets in Pisces on one end, while Jupiter in Virgo hangs on with the South Node. Saturn in Sagittarius is the base of this titer-totter, calling for the bigger picture, expanded vision and integration.
For support in integration of the Pisces and Virgo themes in the sky story this month, here is an excerpt from ““The Secrets to the Zodiac, A Foundation Guide to Modern Astrology” (Interactive workbook & 7 lesson audio program by Kathryn Andren):
Pisces values right brain creativity and flow. Sensitive Pisces values empathy, compassion and creativity, embodying the archetypes of the mystic, dreamer, and the poet. Practical, down-to-earth Virgo brings order and direction to Pisces creative muse and spiritual sensitivity. Flowing Pisces in turn adds grace and ease to Virgo’s daily routines.
Embody the Essence of these integrated themes:
- Left and right brain integration, analysis with creativity.
- Create a calculated approach with emotional sensitivity.
- Deal with details with care and compassion.
- Virgo and Pisces balance the needs of organization and going with the flow.
Kathryn's Contemplation Questions for New Moon in Pisces & Total Solar Eclipse March 2016
- Who is in charge really?
- How do I know what is true?
- Am I still sleeping or am I dreaming my life awake?
- What does it look like when I am taking responsibility to make my dreams a reality?
- Am I waiting for someone or something else to save me?
- What does my life look like when I invite the Divine to be my muse?
Inspired by the music of the spheres and the heavenly muse, here is a planet poem for Pisces Total Solar Eclipse
I AM YOURS DIVINE
by Kathryn Andren
Infuse me completely
I am yours, Divine
Show me clearly so I may shine
Jupiter in Virgo shatters illusion
Neptune in Pisces beyond confusion
Saturn asks what’s your’s, what’s mine?
Visions opening so we may see
Divine plan reveals a mystery
Once and for all
Planet alignments signal the call
Thy will be done
My will Thy Will yours and mine
Take time out
How can I best serve Divine Will
