Mothers Day, Maps for Family Astrology and Scorpio Full Moon May 12, 2025. Horoscopes with Heart by Kathryn Andren
Reflections on Mother's Day
Maps, Books & the Birth Chart as a Compass
There were always plenty of books in our home growing up. Mom and Dad made sure my brother and I were read to every night before bed. In the basement family room, a tall bookshelf stood like a portal to other worlds and nurtured my endless curiosity.
I was especially fascinated by a well worn copy of a large natural history book on human origins, along with Tell Me Why and The Way Things Work. I remember the thrill of receiving the Time-Life series on The Seven Wonders of the World. I poured over pictures of pyramids and temples from long ago.
Even then, I was drawn to life’s big questions:
Where did we come from? How did we get here? What is it all for?
The Power of Maps
My dad had an affinity for maps. Before family vacations, he’d order paper maps and TripTiks from AAA in the 80’s and 90’s to chart the course for our road trips.
As a teen, I had a super sized world map in my bedroom to dream of all the places I would go. Today, I still keep maps around my house, not just of this world, but star maps too. Celestial maps remind me that we’re always guided by something greater.
A Turning Point
One day during my teens, a new book appeared in the family room. My mom announced she and Dad were going through something called a “midlife crisis.” The title of the book hit me hard:
“If You Don’t Know Where You’re Going, You’ll Probably End Up Somewhere Else.”
This title terrified me. Then, got me thinking:
What do you mean, end up somewhere else? I want to know exactly where I’m going!
Astrology as a Map for Life
My love of maps and books gave me a sense of direction. Now, with over two decades of experience in astrology, I know without a doubt:
The astrology birth chart is a map for your soul.
It reveals:
Clues about your family of origin
Relationship patterns learned from your parents
Your cosmic inheritance, what you're here to embrace and learn this lifetime.
The chart highlights your gifts and challenges, and offers insight into your soul’s direction.
Where am I going? Why am I here?
Every challenge shown in the chart also holds the key to its own solution.
The planetary patterns themselves are both the medicine and the map forward.
Real-Life Insight
Just this week, I shared a family astrology session with a couple curious about how to best support their children. Together, we explored:
The children’s natural talents and learning styles
How parent and child connect emotionally
Communication dynamics within the family
Astrology offers tools for greater connection and compassion.
When You Feel Lost, Look to the Stars
I came to astrology from a deep desire to uncover life’s greatest mysteries.
What matters most?
Who are we connected to and why?
What is my purpose?
What do I have to give?
When I feel personally stuck or humbled, I also return to the charts. Reading the charts reignites my soul.
The birth chart map serves me as a spark. It reconnects me with Spirit and with my intuition, so I can better serve others.
Your Chart Is a Map
If you're feeling at a crossroads, or simply curious about your path,
let’s explore your soul’s map together.
